hai tex

This compilation CD features songs from the various forms of the band, hai tex (see archives). Included are the entire six songs from the 1984 EP, select songs from the 1990 release, Strange Things, unreleased material featuring Tim Benton and Jeff Wren, and songs from all of the hai tex music videos. One of the first “Deep Ellum” bands.

The High Time Octet

Originally released as a 12-inch LP in 1975 on Daddy Chops Records, this CD features the singing and songwriting of Jim Cunningham along with John Kuntz, Merrili Garrett, Joan Black, Andy Chiles, Chris Brown, Mark Menikos and Charlie Young. Often compaired with Dan Hicks and His Hot Licks, the High Time Octet was based in Denton, Texas, and played the Southwest music circuit in the mid 1970s.

This CD documents a live performance of the Houston band, Home, on Pacifica Radio in 1973. Although not a stellar recording, it is the only recording of Mark Zindler, Joel Williams, Bill Mhoon, Chris Brown and Andy Chiles. Featuring original music and covers, the CD reveals a surprisingly mature sound coming from a band of Bellaire and Westbury High School students.
